Tom Wagstaff, Jr. is a partner with Wagstaff & Cartmell, LLP, where he has been practicing law as a litigator since graduating from law school at the University of Kansas in 1998. Prior to law school, he obtained his undergraduate degree from DePauw University in Greencastle, Indiana. Tom is licensed to practice in Missouri, Kansas, and Arkansas, as well as in the United States District Court for the Western District of Missouri and in the United States District Court for the District of Kansas. Tom has handled cases in Missouri and Kansas and, with the assistance of local counsel, in South Carolina, North Carolina, Texas, Arkansas, and Arizona.
Tom was the 2007 recipient of the Thomas J. Conway award presented annually to a young litigator in Kansas City. Tom has also been recently selected by his peers in 2008 and 2009 to be included in Kansas City’s Best of the Bar and as a Rising Star in Missouri and Kansas. Tom is a former member of the Ross T. Roberts Inn of Court and is currently a member of the American Bar Association, the Kansas City Metropolitan Bar Association, the Kansas Bar Association, and the Sports Lawyers Association. Tom is on the board of St. Luke’s Hospital of Kansas City, St. Luke’s Cancer Institute, St. Luke’s Cardiovascular Consultants, and the Down Syndrome Guild of Greater Kansas City. Tom is also the past chair of the Medical-Legal/Nursing Home Litigation committee for the Kansas City Metropolitan Bar Association. Tom on several occasions has spoken at legal, medical, and nursing home seminars throughout Missouri. Tom's practice consists of both defense and plaintiff civil litigation, focusing primarily in the areas of medical malpractice, nursing home liability, environmental liability, personal injury, and wrongful death litigation.
In his spare time, Tom likes to spend time with his wife, Carrie, and their three children, Will, Regan, and Owen.
