Daryl Douglas’ current practice focuses on seeking recovery for individuals who have been injured by defective drugs and medical devices. Over the last 30 years, Daryl has had a broadly diversified litigation practice. Since 2016, Daryl has focused predominately on negotiating aggregate and individual settlements of the firm’s mass tort cases, and then structuring and implementing the mass tort settlement processes critical to the clients’ recovery. He also handles all phases of litigation of the firm’s mass tort cases, including producing clients and deposing treating physicians and medical experts.

Prior to 2016, Daryl spent 20 years as the Senior Vice President and Claims Manager at national primary and excess carriers and international reinsurers. During that time, Daryl managed the medical malpractice and general liability exposures for insured hospitals, physicians, and nursing homes, across the country. Daryl counseled insurers and reinsurers on liability and coverage issues, and successfully settled hundreds of catastrophic cases, both before and after trial.

Daryl began his career as an associate at two of Kansas City’s largest defense firms, representing manufacturers in the defense of product liability suits, physicians and hospitals in professional negligence matters, and carriers and their insureds in personal injury cases. During that time, he first and second-chaired several trials to verdict and successfully argued appeals in the state and federal appellate courts. Daryl’s pro bono experience includes successfully reuniting a mother and her infant child following DFS’s efforts to terminate parental rights and a month-long criminal drug conspiracy trial with post-conviction oral arguments to a three-member and en banc panel of the 8th Circuit.

Daryl has frequently been invited to speak before a variety of audiences including insurers, brokers, claims departments, insurance industry groups, and other lawyers. He has given presentations on a wide range of topics including jury verdicts and trends, jury research, defense and claims management of catastrophic cases, case evaluation and reserving, coverage issues, and settlement strategies. Daryl is also retained as an expert in insurance coverage and bad faith litigation.

Daryl has a history of successfully resolving the highest exposure cases for plaintiffs and defendants in individual and global settlements.
