Phil Ashley advises reinsurance clients about their healthcare and medical malpractice litigation exposures. He evaluates, manages and negotiates high exposure litigation on behalf of clients, and he assists his clients in claim evaluation, policy drafting, coverage disputes, and auditing.
After law school, Phil practiced law with the Kansas City firm of Williamson & Cubbison, where he was a partner, in the areas of medical malpractice defense and commercial litigation. He tried cases in Kansas, state and federal courts, and prosecuted many appeals in Kansas and the Tenth Circuit.
His experience in reinsurance issues runs deep. In 1999, Phil joined GE’s Employers Reinsurance Corp. (ERC) as a member of the Healthcare Professional Liability Claims Team, specializing in catastrophic injury medical malpractice cases. In 2002, he was appointed leader of GE ERC’s Primary Hospital Claims Team where he managed a team of attorneys and claims professionals and oversaw a large book of hospital professional liability claims nationwide.
